“There’s a party going on right here. A celebration to last throughout the years…”
It’s in my head right now. Because I had what could have turned into a very stressful day the other week. My computer broke down. I work from home. I had deadlines looming.
First reaction: panic. Heart starts beating faster, breath becomes shorter, mind gets fuzzier. Second reaction? Find my breath.
I expanded my inhales, lengthened my exhales. This enabled me to calm my mind, and bring it to focus on the task at hand. I went through a rapid list of potential solutions, including trying to track down a loaner computer to use while mine was being fixed. An hour and a half later I was back at my desk, my old faithful laptop buzzing along, and back on track.
Years ago, this would have been cause for a full-blown panic attack. It would have ruined not just the morning, but the entire day, and probably the next.
But, because of yoga, it was a blip in an otherwise calm and productive day.
“So bring your good times, and your laughter too. We gonna celebrate your party with you.”
