ON FEAR AND LOVE The universe doesn’t reward us for living in fear. The universe is always guiding us towards the recognition that not only are we loved, we ARE love. Always. It’s frightening to make decisions from a place of love–as strange as that sounds. It feels easier to make choices that listen to the fear in our heads, that honor our inner lizard–the amygdala–and ignore our soul. It feels easier to decide that the anxiety or stress response in our body is something we need to try to eliminate through routine, security, and always knowing what comes next: exactly what we’d planned. It feels right to depend on certainty, predictability and staying where we’ve been before as solutions to easing the fear. THE PAIN OF REMAINING THE SAME Except when, eventually, it doesn’t. Eventually,
“the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of changing.” (Dr. John Townsend)
We realize that nothing is certain, especially not our own plans and in fact, to paraphrase the immortal words of John Lennon, life is what happens we’re busy making them. In fact, the universe will never reward us for choosing to live in fear. Never. Health issues will rise. Insomnia will creep in. Money issues and concerns will crop up. We’ll start to find it harder to be happy–and will realize the impact of our unhappy shock waves are indescribably catastrophic. Life will not be the same. LIFE AND LOVE Life will be waiting patiently, lovingly, gently shining a light so that we can choose to walk towards it. The universe will be waiting eagerly, beaming, ecstatic that we are FINALLY starting to see. Finally, we are moving away from fear and into love. Finally, we are taking tiny steps along the moonbeam path towards our own shining star. We all have one. “Every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers grow, grow.” (Talmud). You have one. And so do I. And when we take our hesitant, heart-pounding, achingly raw steps toward it, the star grows stronger. The path gets brighter, wider. We can’t see the whole thing. We don’t know what’s around the corner. But with love in our hearts and our outstretched palms, we walk no longer blind towards our destiny. We embrace it.
